Henley Wood, Temples and Cemetery Excavations 1962-69

£36.95 £9.95

Lorna Watts and Peter Leach (1996)

The site lies close to the hillfort of Cadbury Congresbury in Somerset. A succession of Roman temples were constructed within an enclosure which then became the location for more than fifty graves of the 5th to 7th centuries, possibly the inabitants of the fort. The temples and cult objects are examined in detail along with the implications of this site for the history of sub-Roman southern Britain. These excavations were carried out in the 1960s under the direction of Ernst Greenfield and the report has been compiled from the archives.
